I presented the framed needlepoint of the Kirkland seal to Sam at my graduation on June 5, 1976. It hung in the Dean of Students Office for awhile, then Sam returned it to me in 1978.
I gave the needlepoint to the Kirkland Archives in 2007 and it was put in the display case near “the swing” in McEwan for the All-Kirkland Reunion. I was on campus in April 2009 and it was still on display in the cabinet, right-hand side.
I worked on the needlepoint in 1974-75 (my junior year) when I spent a year at home due to illness. Fortunately, I was able to take classes at colleges near home and transfer them in so that I could return in Fall ’75 and graduate with my class. Working on the needlepoint was my way of staying connected to Kirkland.
My dad, David W. Weinger took the photo.
